FIRE CHIEF JAMES B. TERRY

Fire Chief James B. Terry passed away April 6, 2011, at Morton Plant Hospital. His son James C. Terry and family members were with him at the end. Many of our firefighters either served under Chief Terry or under his son James C. “Jim” Terry. He was honored by the Indian Rocks Volunteer Firefighter’s at their 2007 Commitment to Excellence in Leadership Awards Dinner.

Fire Chief James B. Terry began his service to our community when Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue was known as the Indian Rocks Volunteer Fire Department. He went on to lead the Department into its growth as a full time professional organization which continued to support and encourage its volunteers. James B. Terry served as Fire Chief of the Indian Rocks Fire District from 1966 through his retirement in 1983. His legacy to the communities we serve and the Fire District has been a lasting one and includes the election of his son, James C. Terry, who went on to follow in his father’s footsteps becoming the second “Chief Terry” to lead the Department and to retire after a distinguished career in the Fire Service.

We are forever grateful for his decades of faithful service.

Firefighter James George Fehl passed away peacefully on November 30, 2011. James left behind a legacy of courage, kindness and selfless generosity. Born in Bulter, Pennsylvania on November 19, 1971. James’ family moved to Florida in 1977. He attended Seminole High School and St. Petersburg Junior College where he studied to become an Emergency Medical Technician. During this period, James started with Indian Rocks Volunteer Firemen’s Association in 1990. He became a full time employee with Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District in 2002. James’ passion for fighting fire led him to train as a Smoke Jumper and SCUBA Rescue Diver. The US Forestry Service had called James to fight fires throughout the United States including Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Nevada and Oregon. In June 2010, James was awarded Firefighter of the Year.

The IRVFA appreciated that James continued to help our members even after becoming a paid firefighter at PSFRD
